Smart city construction is the main method of promoting IoT construction and development, and is also the essential factor for energetically developing IoT industry in the future in China. Recently, Deloitte released “Super smart city report” showing that there are more than 1000 smart cities planned to be built or under construction, and China has 500 ones, being far more than the secondary Europe with 90 ones. From the distribution in China, we have preliminarily formed four smart city groups including Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Midwest area.

According to “Super smart city report”, now we’re building nearly 500 smart cities in China. From 2016 to 2020, we’ll cultivate another 100 smart cities as planned. Smart city project plays an obvious driving role for the development of health care, transportation, logistics, finance, communication, education, energy, environment and other fields. It will continuously support urban and economical sustainable development.

Data from the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the three major operators responsible for the construction of smart cities show that, from the geographic location distribution, China has initially formed four smart city groups including Bohai Rim with Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Qingdao and Jinan, the Yangtze River Delta with Nanjing, Wuxi, Shanghai, Hefei, Hangzhou and Ningbo, the Pearl River Delta with Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen and Xiamen and the midwest regions with Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing and Wuhan.

With the accelerated deployment of 5G network, next generation internet, industrial internet and other network facilities, China’s IoT construction and development will enter a high-speed development period. As an important method for promoting IoT development, smart city constructions across the country will continue to accelerate.
